New Tru Temp® XT Mid-Temperature Black Oxide Process For Difficult-To-Blacken Metals

The new Tru Temp® XT process forms a durable black oxide finish on difficult-to-blacken steel, iron and most stainless steel alloys. Long asked for by metal finishers, Tru Temp® XT is a mid-temperature process that forms a satin black magnetite finish that protects critical surfaces in storage, shipment and startup while resisting galling and aiding break-in.

Operating at 230 – 260°, Tru Temp® XT is used as a two-stage chemical reaction, first using Oxyprime® XT Primer/Prep, then followed by Tru Temp® XT which forms the attractive black magnetite finish. The process takes just 30 minutes. For optimum appearance and corrosion protection, the black finish can be sealed with an appropriate rust preventative topcoat.

The Tru Temp® XT finish is Mil-Spec and RoHS compliant and withstands up to 120 hours of neutral salt spray or several hundred hours of humidity, verified by independent testing. The finish is a 0.5 microns thick (20 millionths) crystalline structure that allows it to effectively hold a rust inhibitor while serving as a sacrificial barrier to provide break-in lubricity and galling resistance. Critical parts are protected for storage or overseas shipment.

The answer to difficult-to-blacken steels, the Tru Temp® XT process can be installed in most plant settings without compromising nearby equipment. The operating solutions contain no EPA regulated chemicals and process rinse waters can usually be sent to the sewer as non-hazardous discharge. Most process lines do not require waste treatment equipment.

Available in 1, 5 and 55 gallon containers, Tru Temp® XT is available online. In addition, complete Tru Temp® XT process lines are available in many capacities to fit part size and production volume. Learn More
